FOTD – November 1 – Japanese Maple Leaves
It’s the first tree to produce leaves and the last tree to drop them. It is green all summer and turns brilliant scarlet in November — when all the other trees have finished their autumn glow.
This year, it hasn’t lit up yet. It is still waiting for another frost. We had one last night — and I had to actually turn on the heat — but the tree needs a bit more cold to get its light on high. So these are all from last year or the year before.

These are wonderful trees. My cousin grows them and we got one of his to bring home. That is the tree in the picture. From a sprig to quite a tree.

How lovely to grow your own tree.

It was just a few inches tall when we brought it home in a bucket. I wish I’d picked a better place to plant it. I kind of forgot it was going to get pretty tall. We can never move the tractor because it would ruin the tree. They have combined.

I think they are happy in each other’s company

The color really is blazing. It’s my favorite tree — and the only one I planted myself.

It is cool and green all year, but then, just about now, it turns to fire.
