A MOMENT OF EPIPHANY

Sometimes in life, we recognize the precise time when our life changed. Something happened. Maybe it was a phone call or a random conversation. It could be a letter or something we read in a book. It wasn’t necessarily an important moment, but something clicked and it becomes our turning point. A decision gets made, often a decision we had no idea was waiting.

An epiphany isn’t something that happens to us. It is when we happen. The moment when we take charge and make changes that will permanently alter our future.

In the movie “Casablanca” (which I hope everyone has seen at least twice), this was the epiphany when Rick (Humphrey Bogart) decides to stop standing by and join the fight. I can’t think of any better version of an epiphany than this.

When Rick nods to his orchestra to play “The Marseillaise,” he moves into the fight. It’s not his first battle, but this time he’ll be in it until the end.

    • I think it’s time we watched it again. I pulled it out and it’s waiting on the table for us to inject it into the DVR. Yes. We use a DVR. I can’t count on them having the movie I want to see available. I like owning my own media.

    • I cry about EVERYTHING for the past couple of years. Dogs, horses, memories of other people that remind me of my own memories. All old movies about animals. Garry too. We watched Jon Stewart last night (Comedy Central from last Monday) and he cried for the entire second half of the show. His dog had just died. Neither me or Garry can even think about dogs who have passed without choking up, though I might not want to do it on television. And yes, that scene in Casablanca gets ME too. I do love that movie, no matter how unrealistic is may be. There’s just something about it …
