THE CHANGING SEASONS – JUNE 2019 – Marilyn Armstrong

The Changing Seasons, June 2019

I took more than 2000 pictures in May, but June, not so many. Part of that was taking down the bird feeders. I really miss the birds. I got a few bird pictures early in June before I emptied the feeders. I didn’t realize how much I counted on being able to take great pictures without driving somewhere or even trekking outside with the camera.

But on the other hand, Rich Paschall came to visit from Chicago and it was great. To finally meet someone you’ve known online for many years was a huge treat. Despite it raining the entire time he was here, we still managed to get outside to take some pictures.

Mostly, it has rained. We are hoping to paint our deck. Owen power washed it, but we need two days of dry weather and then a third to do the painting. We have yet to get three non-rainy days in a row. We live in hope.

The pictures which follow are mine and Garry’s, taken whenever and wherever it wasn’t raining. We tried to cover as much territory as we could. Not bad, all the wet weather considered!

  1. Do you remember it always raining so much over Summer? Or is this a recent ‘feature’??

    • Summer is usually bone dry. By now, all the signs are up telling everyone to NOT water their garden or wash their cars. For the past two years. there have been more rainy days than sunny ones. Good thing there’s no climate change, eh?

        • All our flooded states would agree with that. It was 104 in ENGLAND the other day.

          • I did not hear THAT!??

I did however hear of the heatwave coming up from the Sahara and France recording it’s highest temp ever on record… 114.7F 😓

Meanwhile my country claims it is meeting it’s paris agreement targets but is actually INcreasing it’s CO2 emissions at the moment from 2015 levels… hang on to your seats were in for a bumpy ride.

  2. So much green — I guess you have the rain to thank for that.
I’m glad you managed to get out and about, and to catch up with friends. Hopefully those days carry help carry you through the rainy, indoor ones.

    • It’s very green here. Everything, even the vinyl siding, is green. The rocks are green and weeds are reaching record heights. It’s impressive.

      • Is the siding meant to be green — or is this an organic addition? 🙂

        • No, the siding is slate grey, but it’s got green mold growing on it. There’s green mold on pretty much everything. Between the floating green pollen and the intense volume of rain and humidity. Everything is growing like mad, though, so I guess that’s good and we sure aren’t going to run out of water this year!

          • That’s good. We have survived on water tanks in the past and everyone run out at the same time, so there is a real juggling act trying to order and take delivery before the rush.

    • We have been busy. A lot of medical stuff, company, and trying to get stuff fixed … I’m really tired.

      • We got our new oven on Friday and just in time to bake a cake for our family reunion on Sunday. It’s busy here too….

        • I sometimes think summers are busy because we have to fit in all our outdoor activities in before the snow flies! Glad you finally have a stove again. Hard to go without for any length of time.

          • It is for us, I use it everyday…..

            • Since it’s just Garry and me, bought a mini-oven that I use most of the time and it’s cut our electric bill by half. The air fryer is also working out to be both great for making foods that are usually guilt-laden, but now aren’t — and it doesn’t use a ton of electricity. So really, I only use the stove for the stovetop unless we’re having company.

              • We still have the big family meals so I need an oven big enough for turkey and I also bake bread on a regular basis.

    • The nice days we got were VERY nice. It just never last for any length of time. Now, it’s cooling down which is good. I can open the windows and we can have real air tonight.

      • That’s a relief I’m sure. We have continued cool enough with only using the ac a bit during the hottest part of the day, 3 – 7. Otherwise, it’s not necessary so far.
