Weekly Photo Challenge: From the Car
I cannot, in all honesty, say the “most of my best pictures were taken from the car,” but an awful lot of really good ones were. What is always surprising is how well the camera sees through all the shmutz on the windshield and actually gets relatively sharp pictures.
Typically, the harder part is avoiding reflections rather than dirt … not counting whatever the birds leave behind — and the occasional really big bug.
Here are a few favorites, mostly taken during that very long drive back and forth to Jackman, Maine.

fantastic choice! I often ‘add’ to my many car-windshield-photos that Clean Windows are Highly Overrated…. helps!

Some cameras are much better at ignoring the window than others, but you are right. Clean is definitely overrated and more likely to cause glare and reflections than mere dirt. Unless a seagull hit you!

A lot of them weren’t taken far from you — on Route 210 south!

Considering how dirty the windows were, it’s a miracle!

The photos don’t show any of the dirt, as far as I could tell….

The dirt is part of the photographic experience. Adds ambience.

When the world is that beautiful, it’s hard to take bad pictures. I always point out that if you live in New England and can’t take beautiful pictures, you are hopeless at photography. Move on to another hobby!

Marilyn, as we “wrap” our photo shoots, I always do a 360 perimeter check. I see so many more shots. But you gotta say “quittin’ time”.

Since being retired, we always take vacations in the fall. The weather is usually good (except for the hurricanes, so it isn’t great Caribbean weather) and all the kids are back in school, so rates are lower too and the world is beautiful. We had a time-share in Jackman and it was paid off, but we couldn’t do the drive anymore. We are just not up to a 10-hour drive up and down mountains, but it was so incredibly beautiful!

It certainly sounds delightful Marilyn. Getting older has its perks, but oh my goodness it comes with a fair share of drawbacks, and for some more than others!

Sue, I agree. “Almost Home” is classic.

Taking photos from the car is not easy. You see something, want to click but the camera needs organising and it has already gone. I don’t do it now as often as I did since I go out more in the chair, but you have some good shots there

I’ve gotten good at having the camera ready to shoot. I get about one out of three shots, and maybe one out of half a dozen that’s any good. But it’ something to do on a drive 🙂
