Fandango’s Provocative Question #94:
The Day After the Election

And the question du jour, perhaps of the year, is:

So here I am, watching the news. Again or maybe that would be “still.” I think Biden has it. He got Michigan and Wisconsin and my friend in Pennsylvania says HER country just flipped and considering where she lives, she’s sure the whole state’s will flip. We don’t have an “I won!” declaration from Biden, but I sense one isn’t far off. Are all the lawyers in the country ready? A courtroom shitstorm is on the way!

I think the election went VERY well. There were no riots, near riots, shootings, or looting. The lines weren’t as long as people expected. It was probably one of the best-managed, smoothest-running elections in at least 20 years. Am I happy?

I’m glad Biden will emerge the winner and will keep it — in the end. First though, there’s all the shit, lies, and lawyers. Nonetheless, after the last four years I think we all deal remarkably well with shit. We don’t have to like it, but we do manage. I’m not thrilled about how many people don’t see Trump as the menace he is. We all need to rethink the “reality” of the country we thought we knew. I had to do that several times while I lived in Israel as the electorate changed hugely from my arrival at the end of 1978 to when I left in 1987. But I didn’t grow up there. I didn’t “know” it the way I thought I knew this country.

I also hoped intelligence might break out across our nation, that the bad things might get some people believing that “facts” and “truth” in a reality that is REAL in ia fact-drive way rather than living in a Faux News alter-universe. Who knows? The people believe what they believe and don’t want to have their fantasies interrupted by data. Biden’s gotten most of the “rust belt” back and (probably) added Arizona and maybe Nevada.

I’m still disturbed by how many crazy people are still supporting this piece of shite even after his many failures. They can’t ALL their money n the stock market and their belief in the “improvement” of the economy seems more fantasy than actuality. As for the rest of the economy, a lot of them think they’re rich since it’s only the already-rich who are getting richer. Maybe it makes the underclasses believe they will be rich next?

I’m glad we’ll be back in bluer hands, but dismayed we didn’t take so many other voters with us. Which is where the readjustment awaits me. We are not any kind of “beacon” of freedom. We believed it and tried to make it true, but it wasn’t righteous. Not from the day we made slavery and murdering Natives an American goal.

I’ll take what I can get. NOT having Trump at the helm is something. We won’t have to listen to him every day. I hate his voice — that flat snaky, sneaky voice — and Garry hates it even more. A sane Democrat at the helm would be a good thing, but there’s so much to be done. Right now, our fundamental beliefs are the votes we cast. We can at least start some of the repairs!

This is a moving target. Watch, wait, stay peaceful. It’s going to be a long haul.

  1. your liberal glasses blind you to some real facts like:
He placed 200 Federal judges and 3 US Supreme Court judges in four years!
He received 12% of black voters, 32% of Hispanic voters – pretty good for supposed racist.
He has won peace accords in Middle East. He has close to half this country voting for him.
The rioters and looters were not Trump supporters. We will never agree on anything, and in our eyes – electing a senile, old man for four years at this job shows just how desperate your party actually is here. Joe Biden will have lots of fun doing anything with a Republican controlled senate.
The lying liberal pollsters were not even close in this election – they must make this stuff up.

  2. I worry about the shitstorm that might yet happens when the results become official if, in fact, Biden is declared the winner. Will Trump’s stormtroopers just lay down their arms and slink quietly back to their caves? Well, that depends upon whether or not accepts the outcome or continues with his baseless rhetoric about how the election was stolen and that Biden is an illegitimate winner. Then we’ll see if the Trumpsters take to the streets.

    • I don’t know, but I am pretty sure they aren’t ready to take on the military or even the state militias. They are outgunned an much too small and disorganize. This isn’t ONE group of organized military people. They are rabble with big guns and a bad attitude. They can make trouble, but they are troublemakers who are not being restrained by anyone, law not being a thing they consider critical to their behavior.

    • All of we damned socialist liberals about who we are as a nation. We thought WE were where the country was going, that we were obviously believers in the better way. I still think we were and are right, but clearly we are very far distant from the rest of the country. We thought legislative progress was the same as social and cultural progress and we were very wrong. It looks like Obama was the outlier, NOT Trump. He’s right in line with the clowns we’ve been electing though most of our history. I don’t like it either, but reality IS.
