FOTD – December 21 – Poinsettia
Among the minor miracles of this yea, my Poinsettia has not only not died, but it has grown a new set of flowers. They are off-while, which was probably the original color before someone spray-painted and glittered the leaves. Every previous bunch of flowers regrew. I have been doing what I always do — neglecting it and watering only when very dry — and hoping for the best.
My granddaughter, last night during our pre-Christmas family sit-down dinner, Kaity commented the Poinsettia was doing well. I hadn’t realized all those new flowers had bloomed. I never saw buds.
I’m not sure exactly how Poinsettias bloom. It is as if the flowers (leaves?) pop out as directly with no budding. This is a first for me. I’m delighted. Neglect and a good window seems to be the “charm.”

I’ve been slaughtering Poinsettia for 50 proud years. Not one has survived even to Christmas, much less after the holiday. But this year, I put it in the window — the same one where all my plants live — and neglected it, i.e., watering only when really very dry. It grew all new flowers! I thought it was impossible. Every living plant loves that window.

Thank you. I think it’s my Poinsettia that’s doing all the growing, but I take your point and I thank you again 😀

I hope they’ll be with us when the apple blossoms appear in Spring.
