WHERE DID 2022 GO?

Share Your World 19th December

Talk about time going fast! This year has sped by so quickly I almost can’t remember it. I remember fall because it was short and beautiful. I remember the drought because nothing grew except strangling weeds. But the rest of the year isn’t even a blur. It’s just GONE. Whoosh!

I know this feeling that time is speeding up is not unusual and I suspect that the older you get, the more you feel it whizzing past leaving you in its dust, so to speak. I can actually remember the books I read more than anything I did. Maybe that’s because we didn’t do very much? I’m sure we did something. I just don’t remember what!

Here are this week’s questions:

How organised are you in either your working or private life?

Our money stuff is very well organized. The rest of life is as organized as life allows. But honestly, other than making sure bills get paid, there isn’t all that much to organize. Maybe I’m missing something, but I think life is a lot simpler than it used to be. Organization isn’t a big deal.

Do you remember family birthdays or anniversaries and send cards?

Yes. Usually, I send electronic cards. Garry still sends snail mail cards and takes a great deal of time and thoughtfulness in selecting them.

If you see something in a shop that is an extravagance but you can afford it, do you buy it?

I don’t go shopping. Otherwise, this year I ordered some clothing, making the same mistake I always make: buying it when I was at my lowest weight so now, while it isn’t too tight to wear, it’s too tight to be really comfortable. I thought I’d settled on that weight, but now I’m up by a few (2-1/2) pounds, give or take half a pound. It’s enough to make them more snug than I like. I admit I’m much happier in clothing that’s looser than “fitted.” I guess I’ll never learn.

Are you looking forward to the New Year? 🎈🎇🎆

No, not really. As a holiday, it has never been a favorite and as a “new” year, I’m not thrilled about being a year older. Now if the clock would turn back and go the other way? I’d LOVE that!

Gratitude: What simple thing warms your heart?

All my orchids are sending up shoots and a few of them already have buds. I get a lot of pleasure from my little indoor garden.

Orchid buds

I also really enjoy putting up our little tree. I know it’s not one of the giant sequoias many people seem to feel are necessary to prove it’s really Christmas, but I really love NOT having a giant tree taking over the living room and not having to rearrange everything. Or having to clean up those pine needles that seem to lodge themselves into every nook and cranny. Oddly, having the same tree year-to-year is satisfying in its own way.

So from us to you, enjoy the season as we roll into 2023.

  1. Thanks for joining in Marilyn. We haven’t put our deccies up yet, probably towards the end of the week. I have a little Christmas tree as made by my niece in 1990 and that goes up every year. We have a bigger one now and it will be interesting to see Maya’s reaction as she came nose to nose with a bauble today in a shop, though she had seen decorated trees in the garden centre.

    • Fortunately, the Duke has zero interest in the tree or any decorations. Since he came into “full-grown doghood,” he has been the least destructive dog I’ve ever had. He went through a chewing stage as a pup, but since then? He doesn’t even maul his own toys.

Our cats were really bad and our hounds were terrible also. A few were really destructive and we almost gave up having any decorations at all.

      • Maya has ‘loved’ her teddies to a soggy mess but not really a chewer. neither were Maggie or Barney and one year I stupidly put chocolate novelties on the tree but Maggie didn’t even sniff!

        • Duke likes to lick his. They are always kind of damp and a bit soggy. But he doesn’t bite or tear them, so he has a LOT of doggy toys. He has every toy he’s ever gotten.

          • Sadly when we sold the cottage and bought the boat, all of Maggie’s toys got mislaid and we never found them. We kept two after she died, and still have Barney’s red boot which was the only squeaker he didn’t ‘pop’. It’s on the shelf and Maggie never touched it, though Maya showed interest once, but now she has her own box, she’s happy!
