Cee’s Black & White Photo Challenge: Weather
The weather outside really is frightful. It’s below zero with a wind chill that makes it worse. I’m not sure how much worse. Tomorrow? Some snow, of course. This is January in New England. We have weather. Lots and lots of it.
Weather is a particularly good subject for black and white. Cloud formations, snow, and ice are naturals in monochrome. Even a sunrise can look smashing in monochrome.
Living in New England, we have a lot of all of different kinds of weather. And if you don’t like the weather right now? Wait a minute …

I miss New England so much at times. I miss the fall colors and that fresh earthy smell of Spring..I miss my family still living there. I don’t miss winter there!

Thus speaks a true New Englander 🙂 I don’t have the heart to tell most people how much I could do without the snow (and the sleet and the freezing rain followed by the mud). It IS beautiful, but the older you get, the more effort it takes to survive the winter here. When I lived elsewhere, though i really missed the Autumn. Like to my bones. I needed the amber light and the golden trees. Funny how the rhythm of the seasons is part of us.

I totally agree how the rhythm becomes a part of us. I love living where I do and not dealing with the “mess” of winter, but there is always a “tapping” inside of me that desires the dramatic change of seasons that only comes from New England.

I can really relate to the snowbirds these days. If we had the means, we would be outta here until spring!

Just when you think it can’t get any worse, it can!

Yes, and that is why you never, ever say out loud “It can’t get words” or anything like that. Because it WILL get worse.

Do you mean – “wait a minute”- it gets worse ? It is looking pretty bad here too!

Wait a minute, it will change. Worse, better, or just different. It must have something to do with being relatively near the ocean or living in a valley because the only place I’ve ever been with less stable weather is Ireland!

These are great photos for weather. I like the grave stone shot. 🙂

Thanks, Cee. That’s a pre-Revolutionary War graveyard, so it has wonderful old stones.

wonderful weather! love that last cabin, and the first one in the cemetery would make a great cover for a book

The falling down cabin is actually maintained by the town it’s in … it’s some kind of local symbol. No idea why. It’s just a wreck. The cemetery is more interesting. It’s our pre-Revolutionary War cemetery. Really interesting place. Great old stones with classic inscriptions!

That last one is actual one of my all time favorites. It looks almost exactly the same in full color as it does in monochrome except for a hint of green in some of the evergreen bushes. That shack is some kind of symbol of the town of Hadley. They maintain it to keep it from falling down. No, I do not know why.
