I swear I was going to quote that poem in a comment on the previous set of photos, because it was the first thing that came to mind as I was looking at them. 🙂
Robert Frost, New Hampshire native, really “got” New England. The seasons, the people, its odd culture, and habits. He understood the way things look, through all the seasons. One of the few poets to whom I can relate.
The scarlet trees are more admired, but I favor the gold. It hints of riches and the color is the one which lasts late into the year. Even now, some of it clings to trees.
He was a local guy and his poems are so perfect with pictures I take. He was a great poet … but even greater when you come from around here. Garry interviewed him a couple of times right before he passed.
I don’t know how much he remembers of it. A little bit, but it was among the very first assignment he got when he came up to Boston in 1970. We have a portrait of Robert Frost by Alfred Eisenstadt hanging on our wall downstairs. The only portrait of anyone in this house who isn’t a family member or close friend.
They are really beautiful!
