When the snow melts after a long winter, all kinds of stuff shows up. Dog toys and the flower pots I meant to throw away but didn’t get to it before the first blizzard. A hat and a single glove. The other snow shovel and a missing broom. It also signaled the reappearance of our 2002 yellow Pontiac Sunbird that disappeared at the end of January.
After all the aggravation and expense of replacing my missing sunglasses, they were in the glove compartment of the yellow car. Garry said he thought they were in the car. I was so utterly convinced I’d looked for (and not found) them before the first blizzard, I bought a new pair.
During the past ten days, it has often rained. The snow finally melted allowing Garry to get into the car to look around. And, there were my sunglasses. The beloved sunglasses I’ve had forever, or nearly forever.
My favorite sunglasses were in the glove box the whole time.
Now, I own two pairs of sunglasses. I know it’s okay to own two pair of prescription eyeglasses. I have two pair of computer glasses, two pair of regular distance glasses. I don’t think they are a luxury.
I have two pair of prescription sunglasses, and I feel like a criminal. Guilty about spending the money, as if I’d bought a frivolous, expensive item I don’t need.
I’ve been poor too long.
Haha, that car is really snowed in.

There were weeks we couldn’t see it at all … but it started as soon as Garry put the key in it. Okay, it has a flat and needs the same repair it needed before getting buried, but damn if that little Sunbird isn’t still alive and well.

Because we all go a little crazy and being human is being wild and wildness brings our own beauty. This is a lonely world there may always be something missing but within the madness is where you find yourself. My first blog, I hope you enjoy it

I know what you mean, that would annoy me but it is hardly surprising you could not find the sunglasses when you couldn’t find the car for a couple of months. Look at it this way, now you have two pairs of sunglasses it will be twice as long before you need to buy another pair. You’ll have a home pair and an away pair.

Hopefully they won’t both disappear at the same time. Maybe my eyes won’t change a lot. I like the new ones which, I notice, look much like the old ones. At least I’m consistent.

Doesn’t that just annoy you. It is always interesting to find lost items when the snow escapes. Sometimes the snow takes so long to melt that you have forgotten what was around before the white stuff fell. It is always good to have a spare pair of anything – I am always losing things.

I usually don’t lose things, but I can put them away so safely I don’t find them for years. The melting snow always provides surprises.

Ironic it was the Sunbird that got buried. B)

Ironic and weirdly appropriate.

Look at it this way — now you have a spare set in case anything ever happens to the first pair. Nothing wrong with a back-up plan. 🙂

No, there isn’t. It is merely that prescription sunglasses are very expensive compared to any other glasses. On the other hand, you’re absolutely right … it’s good to have a backup. Especially for eyeglasses!

I was hoping I’d find some money or something under our several feet of snow. Alas, ’twas not to be.
However, I did finally find Cody’s little pink wading pool, but after all of us tromping across the snow on top of it, it’s unusable now.

I have found money in the past, but not this year. The sunglases were welcome, but made me feel ike a moron for not waiting a couple of weeks longer. Many things … including what used to be our garden … are rubble. This winter was a literal killer.

Great story, Marilyn. I still can’t believe that you got so much snow. Enjoy the melt and the warmer weather on its way.

Thank Evelyne. I’m hoping this is not going to become “the way it is” every winter. I’m trying not to think about winter any more. Time to think about warmth, though it’s chilly today. Soon the weather will change, probably within a couple of weeks. I sure hope so!!!

Have as many sunglasses as you want, go crazy, but what I want to know is did the Sunbird start after all that time under the snow????

Damned if I know. We thought it was going to be dead. One of the tires is flat, though.

Good you finally got your fav ones back. You can always keep the new ones for future snowfalls in case…..you know what I mean 🙂

I can keep one pair in the car, the other in my bag? One in the house, the other in my bag — or the car? I can misplace one and not have to hunt down the other before leaving? I’m sure there will be an up side to this.

You’ll probably find yourself subconsciously engineering an “accident” for the new pair now 🙂

Yes. I can go on a roller coaster and have them fall into space and not panic! As long as they are not on my head when they go flying into space.
