Stranger in my own strange land
If you think this is going to be political, it’s not. It is me and me, today. There are days when my body doesn’t fit me. This is one of those days.
How can that be? A doctor long ago told me I will never die.
“Why not?” I asked.
“You have so many chronic ailments, they will keep you alive.”
I thanked him for that. It’s one of the days when no part of me fits any other part. It’s like my physical me is just a bunch of mismatched old parts, clanking around an aging pickup truck.
AND the television people are coming while it looks a bit like rain may fall. I need to get through the day alive. Lucky that I was functional yesterday.
This day would have been a real humdinger if I felt then as I feel now. Yoicks.
I actually have not one but TWO copies of “Stranger in a Strange Land” in this house. An old hard-cover copy and I have it as an audiobook. When it was written, it sounded completely outlandish. I’m not sure how it’ll sound these days, but I think maybe I’ll reread it.
Waiting is.

Yesterday was my “yoikes” day. Wretched tbh. Much better today. Course the sun has come out sharing its lovely self with everyone after heavy rainfall thunder and lightning which I usually enjoy. Not so yesterday though.

We seem to have gotten lucky with the weather too. It rained all night here, also, but over the past couple of hours, a wind came up and blew the clouds away.

In the past two hours, a nice breeze came up and blew the clouds away. The sun is out. I am so glad. I love my dogs, but that hysterical barking makes it very hard to have even a basic conversation, much less a TV recording!

That has to be a sign that all will go well 🙂

Marilyn, I have been off on a journey of many days like this so have not read or posted much in quite a while. I was looking forward to seeing how you are and sorry to hear it is “yoicks” as I can really relate…..hope today and tomorrow and the next are better, if only incrementally..

Stuff comes and goes. I had a nice long run of reasonably good days, so one like this isn’t so bad … except that it’s going to be busy and I have to get my head wrapped around doing stuff. At least the sun came out!

I’m really sorry. Those kind of days SUCK. I hope the TV people don’t add to the turmoil…

The TV people are the reason I got out of bed and am drinking coffee. Next, Excedrin. I got my stomach back where it belongs and if my splitting headache can be eliminated, I’ll be human. Mostly.

I never read the book, but I heard the song by Leon Russell and the Shelter People.

What an interesting response. I also thought of the song first, book second although the book was prominent in my young life.

I keep thinking that Leon Russel is dead. And he is. But he looked dead when he was alive.

Well, take a good long look at Keith Richards. Talk about alive, yet somehow dead.

HAAA you’re right !!! He was a junkie for years. Don’t know if he’s off it now or not? When you’re a multi-millionaire Rock Star I’m guessing it’s no problem getting drugs.

I keep confusing Leon Russell with Leon Redbone.

U know what? I believe there is some similarity there.

The book is interesting. It might be even MORE interesting now than when it was first written. So much of the insanity he predicted is already in place.

I’ll have to see if I can find it on Kindle and download it.

When STRANGER IN A STRANGE LAMD was originally published, it was in a version that had been severely cut diwn to suit the editor’s policy on maximum word length. So, when you re-read your old copy of STRANGER, read it side-by-side with the posthumously published uncut version: https://www.amazon.com/Stranger-Strange-Land-Robert-Heinlein/dp/0399135863
