AZALEAS

FOTD – April 13 – Azalea

One the prettiest flowering shrubs in spring are azaleas. We have just one, but it’s pretty big and when it blooms — if the rain stops and we get a little sunshine — it is white and beautiful.

The pink ones are part of the display by the Mumford dam. Usually, by this time, it’s all abloom down there, but it’s running a little late this year.

    • It would seem so 😎

We had a nice day today and like you, our pollen is very high. We have flowers on the trees, but no leaves — so it’s ALL about pollen. Our azalea looks like it is considering the possibility of blooming. A few days of sunshine would be nice.

  2. My dad loved azaleas and he grew some fantastic ones. The same with roses, he knew what to do when and always had a great display when they flowered.

    • The azaleas are relatively easy. Roses are much more work, so congratulations to he who grew fantastic roses. I have hedge roses. They are easy, but they aren’t the fancy roses and they don’t have much scent. I love roses and we tried to grow them. Winter was colder 25 years ago and they didn’t survive the winters. They might survive now, but the beetles eat everything. I will have to settle for admiring other people’s 🌹 roses.

  3. I was going to say that my azaleas are running late this year too, but I realise my whole garden is running late, it’s been such a cold, wet spring I’m not sure the flowers know what’s best to do, so seem to be doing as little as possible for as long as possible!

    • Last year they tried to flower early and then we got that super cold night and they died. I don’t think we’re going to get another serious frost. I sure HOPE not. Everything is budding, the daffodils are still blooming, the solomon’s seal is popping up all over the place as is the spiderwort and daylilies. Not, however IN the garden. There’s nothing but moss in the garden. Everything has managed to replant itself somewhere else. I’m glad it looks healthy so far, but that is a bit odd, isn’t it?
