I have been returning, over the years, to the same locations to shoot. If it weren’t for the data embedded in the file, I often wouldn’t be able to tell when they were taken. Except for the pictures I took in the Autumn of 2008.
That was a splendid season. It was the last autumn we had that wasn’t a rain out. Last year and this one we almost made it. But then came the rain to wash the leaves away.
In honor of our usually best, but never long enough season, these are pictures of peak color by the canal and River Bend Farm, October 2008.
Maybe we’ll get another great autumn, though it’s beginning to seem doubtful. For three successive years, we’ve had two hurricanes, and a huge unnamed storm. Since 2009 it’s been one natural climate event after another. Is it going to be hurricane season rather than foliage season? It’s worrisome.
Let’s hear it for 2008 … a vintage year when the trees all looked like they were lit from within. The best of Autumn.

Sandy ended it for us. Today, it’s definitely cold. But at least not snowing. That’s something.

I could handle it. It’s about 35 here and dropping fast. I’m going to have to fire up the furnace this evening. $$$

Very beautiful photos Marilyn. I love the Fall foliage. We’ve had the best color this year since I moved here. It takes your breath away and it’s everywhere. I suppose it’s due to the 90 days we had without a drop. The trees so needed a drink that when the wind picks up a lot of them are uprooting or just snapping off. It’s a shame but that’s Nature.

You need the right weather for a good autumn display. Not too wet, not too dry. Cold enough, but not freezing. Here, it just keeps raining. Autumn was not, until recently, a wet season, but hurricanes and other big coastal storms are seriously disrupting the season.

Yes. That’s a great quote. And that’s the way it ought to be … if these storms would stop ruining it before it gets there. This was the last year that didn’t happen. 4 years of storms since then.
