According to my calendar, this is National Hemp Month. It’s perfect for us because it is growing on the deck and looking exceedingly healthy. Not ready for harvesting, but it is definitely working on it.

Every July, National Hemp Month celebrates the roaring comeback of one of the world’s most useful and versatile plants – hemp.
For more than 80 years, laws banning cannabis also exiled hemp, even though it’s not intoxicating. Now, legal advancements are changing how people view and access hemp. National Hemp Month offers an occasion to rediscover hemp and its usefulness for both people and the environment.
Hemp provides an all-natural, eco-friendly fiber with many applications, ranging from clothing to paper to “hempcrete.” As a crop, it helps clean pollutants from the soil. Hemp also provides a rich source of CBD, the hottest new addition to the health and wellness world.
Given the state of the state, the state of the planet and all the nations on it, the state of our finances, the state of employment or lack thereof. and the general demoralized state of just about everything everywhere, cook up some edibles. Let the ugliness of life roll on past while you dream of better days that were and hopefully, will be again.
As a note for people who are wondering how bad it is? It hit 100.4 degrees F in Siberia yesterday and 96 in Maine. A hot time in the old town tonight!

It was 21 C here today the warmest it’s been. Unseasonably chilly and damp, with little rain until the last few days. Don’t tell that to the dozens of frogs we suddenly have, several found in the garage and mozzies galore. You’d think we had standing water somewhere but there isn’t and the no seums are insane! Time will tell how the summer plays out. So far, I’m ok with 18 19 degrees.

So strange. I had just finished typing “hot time in the old homestead tonight” regarding my upcoming birthday celebration with a friend and clicked on your blog and read it there as well. We are on the same wavelength. Your crop is gorgeous by the way. What are you going to do with all the fiber you make out of it? ;o)

I shall make rope with hemp fiber and weave my own clothing, of course. I shall only occasionally cook my clothing and put it on toast with strawberry jam.

My hemp usually grows from bird seed, so more luck than judgement and not being the real thing. The local gardener mowed our wild lawn last week and in the process removed my nice wildly growing hemp. Thank goodness i habe a second plant although nothing special

We have quite a garden out there. And since we never get rain anymore, as long as the well doesn’t dry up and we can keep watering it … the future will be full of banana and gingerbread. Not one bread. Two breads.

My Japanese Maple looks something like that except the leaves are red.

They do resemble each other, but it turns out, you just can’t smoke your Japanese Maple. Well, you can, but nothing much happens.

Siberia at more than 100? That’s scary. It’s hot here, too, but we’re about the same as you, with occasionally higher spikes. And NO rain.

Rain we had aplenty last week. One night, it was cold enough to need a hot water bottle. Last night, I put that in the fridge for a while 😉

I would be happy for the cold just to get some rain and clear out the leftover pollen! Maybe fill up the river a bit. When the river gets this low, the fish and turtles die too.
