IT’S THAT TIME OF YEAR AGAIN

This is actually — and how we got to this time of year so FAST — Christmas week. So, while I’m not going crazy with decorating, it’s getting busy and will stay busy for the rest of the week and through the weekend.

I just spent the last two and a half HOURS online with WordPress engineers. We figured out that I should NOT convert old posts into block format — the function doesn’t work (yet). No idea why galleries don’t show up on the iPhone. AND why my Mac won’t work in block mode (it’s a browser glitch and is such a pain to solve, the answer is to work incognito. The problem disappears.

The engineer was a hoot. Really funny. She kept drawing character pictures then adding emojis in just the right places.

I won’t be posting a lot this week. It’s just shaking out as busy. Not crazy busy, but not a lot of spare time. Today was groceries, getting refunds on things never received, wrapping the few gifts that did show up. Very weird delivery season on so many levels. For a while, we weren’t getting any mail, then they seemed at USPS to get their act together and it has been okay for a whole week. Now, if ONLY Fedex would get it together.

They’ve totally gone around the bed. Overworked and underpaid? I get it, but I bought stuff so I have a clear interest in receiving it.

We spent so much money at the grocery store, it’ll be a while until we recover, but we were out of a lot of things, especially paper goods like paper towels and toilet paper (expensive and we buy the cheap stuff). I think a solid $60 went for other basics. You know how you always have enough salt, flour, ketchup, and baking powder — stuff like that? Then one day, you are out of everything at the same time. That’s pretty much what happened.

t wasn’t just food. it was soap and laundry detergent. Have you SEEN those prices? And while we didn’t overpay for anything, prices have gone up a lot and are still going up. It’s a scary world and some of us live on fixed incomes.

Very very fixed incomes.

Have a wonderful season. I’ll get back to everyone, but you know, it’s that time of year again.

    • And to you and yours. Going to be a slow week for blogging — just as well. While I’m not insanely busy, I’m busier than normal. Just trying to clean up all the accumulated dust…

We were going to be four for dinner. Then two more — and oops, forgot about Kaity’s boyfriend — um, seven because I kept miscounting and thinking six — except NOT. So, we have to move tables around. No way to fit 7 at the smaller table. Then Christmas will vanish until next time — and it’ll be back to using the dining room as my flower growing and photography room. Maybe next year, life will be more normal-ish? We hope 🐱‍💻

    • I was just planning on us and maybe my son’s boyfriend and then granddaughter and DIL — and forgot about granddaughter’s boyfriend, so now we are seven and have to move tables around. The holidays just creep up on us — especially this year. It was summer yesterday — and now, it’s Christmas? How did that happen?

  3. We’ve been having the same sort of week, getting groceries, finishing off Christmas baking. Naomi went shopping for pet presents. I still have to wrap her present and she has to wrap everything she says.
Tomorrow, I plan to cook some of the meat for Christmas Day ahead of time, dust, vacuum and try to get a doll blog post done. I don’t have to go anywhere till next Thursday when it’s my shift at the Visitor Centre so we can chill a bit.

    • We do a big Christmas eve and a smaller Christmas day. Kaity and boyfriend going to HIS house for Christmas Day. THAT is probably the real deal.

We’ve got a leg of lamb for tomorrow night. How can it already BE Christmas eve tomorrow night? Since Kaity and (I forgot his name AND so did Garry!) Him won’t be here, I’ve got a couple of flank steaks for Saturday.I didn’t spend much on gifts, so that’s all done — even the wrapping. I swear it was Thanksgiving the day before yesterday. Time speeding merrily along.

    • I knew it was going to be a LONG conversation because I’d been avoiding it for years, but converting old posts to the new format was becoming a real issue. When I rewrite something, I don’t just reblog it. I usually do a major rewrite. Now that I know i can’t convert is simply, I’m going to have to copy the text into a new (empty) post and go from there because I always change photographs, even if I don’t rewrite all the text. But usually, I do a LOT of rewriting and change the pictures, so I think starting over is the way to go.

They have NO idea why galleries won’t show in email on an iPhone, but there are a lot of iPhone woes going around.

As for my Mac completely refusing the block format, it’s a bad link in Chrome and getting rid of that link is a ridiculous amount of work when I can get the same result by working incognito. I’m going with the simple solution!

But they really WERE very nice — and my lady (from her name, I’m guessing Chinese or maybe Korean) was really funny and very patient. I don’t really know my Mac at all because I so rarely use it. But I think I’m going to start using it more because it’s light. But I’m not sure with 8 GB of memory, it will handle photos. I guess I’ll find out.

    • Thanks. Hope you are having a good or at least interesting time in the other country 😀 It really IS that time of year again — and it just caught us almost unaware. I was pleased with this bunch of photos. Sometimes, the magic really does work.
