FOTD – October 21 – Pink Chrysanthemums
They were creamy white with a yellow center. As they bloomed, I notice a few of them had a slightly pink cast, but I put that down to a reflection from the red leaves all around me. But as the days progressed, they turned more and more pink.

They are becoming hybrids.

Isn’t that odd? I didn’t know flowers could just change colors like that. They were really white when I got them, then cream … and now … pink? Pink. I’ve simply never seen flowers change color like that before.

Cross pollination I think.

I guess! They are very pink this morning. It’s not that they are pink. It’s that they used to be white, then cream, now pink. If they don’t die first, they may yet go to full red!

You should keep an eye for the cross pollinator.

Why do I suspect “birds”?

More likely bees and butterflies!

I hope so. I haven’t seen many butterflies here in recent years, but we do have bees. In fact, we have a lot of bees because all the local farms breed bees and they wander over this way. It’s not such a long trip if you’re a bee. Just a long trip for a person.

So they are doing their job well. Making new colors.
