I could help it. I could think of so many great meanings for rebuttal. Mostly, I think this is an nonverbal response. Instead of saying something, you just sit on it, hence the “butt” in rebuttal.

I think rebuttal is when you sit on it for a second time. The original word if probably “buttal.”
