At the Heritage Museum and Gardens lighting the other night, among many beautiful, fun things was their winter carousel. In a heated building (yay because it was too cold for comfort!) where the painted ponies went up and down, round and round …
The carousel no longer has its own calliope, so the music was piped in on speakers. The riders, ranging in age from toddlers to very senior citizens, were undaunted and rode with joy.

The photograph you entered for the Best Photo of the Week is simply wonderful! The blurred color as the horses pass gives a marvelous sense of movement, yet the child is perfectly still in his glee of the ride.

Thank you 🙂 For once, I got that effect intentionally. The hard part was not getting the blur (blurry is easy), but controlling it so I would also have a piece of picture remaining that was NOT blurry. I shot at least a hundred frames to get half a dozen I like. I was determined to get something I liked. Finally. After years of trying!

Especially like the 1st photo. I love riding on the carousel. It’s kinda’ therapeutic in a way.

It used to be my default cheere-upper when I was depressed. A few loops around the on a big wooden horse with a calliope playing made me smile even in the depths of breaking up with somebody or other 🙂

It was actually a pretty speedy carousel, much faster than many I’ve ridden on.

Thank you, master 🙂 It was fun. Usually, I ride but this time, I stayed on the ground and shot. I wanted to catch movement. Usually when I do, it’s random. This time, it was more calculated. The first time I was able to do it the way I wanted 🙂

Thanks 🙂 I wanted the blur of movement. I had to experiement with where to stand to get the effect and except for little kids knocking me nearly off my feet, I think I got it:-)

Only her version. Also love her song ‘it’s coming on Christmas, their cutting down trees, oh I wish I had a river…I could skate away on”

I bought those early albums on CD – they have all be remastered. When I got them at B&N, the clerk looked and said “Good taste!” You don’t get that much from clerks 🙂

How old was the clerk? Some music remains classic and has the ability to span generations. I believe that album (CD) is called Blue.

I think you’re right, but the album name doesn’t appear anywhere on the cover. The clerk was probably in his late 20s, maybe early 30s … hard for me to tell. Young people all look alike 🙂

Ain’t that the truth and 40 is looking pretty damn young these days too.

Did you ever think the President would be younger than you? Or that your doctor would look like a school kid? My SON is 43. My GRANDDAUGHTER is 17. I’ve got sweaters as old as my son and they are in good condition. Better than I am, anyhow!

No, I never thought any of that would happen, and my doctors have been younger than men for some time now. I see newscasters that look like they are in their teens. I became invisible to woman in their 20’s and 30’s when I turned 40. Now I’m just some old harmless guy, but they could be wrong about the harmless part. What I feel mostly, and generally, is a big disconnect from almost everything, except my wife and son. Sometimes I feel a bit dangerous.

I know they really aren’t kids; I certainly wasn’t a kid at that age, but from my current age, they look like they’re barely out of diapers. I find it difficult to relate. Garry and I treasure the few age-appropriate relationships we still have … they are few and far between. Thank God for each other! AND for the Internet that lets us keep in touch with old friends who live too far for visiting.
