ANOTHER CUP OF COFFEE, PLEASE

A Form of Flattery – Write a post about any topic you want, but in the style of an author or a blogger you admire.

It’s hard to get up a real head of enthusiasm on a day when you doubt the post will ever actually show up on The Master Post. WordPress, please bring back regular vanilla ping-backs. The technology is tried and true. It’s been working for more than 20 years and clearly, whatever you are doing has, as my granddaughter says, “issues.”

Mr. CoffeeWrite in someone else’s style? To be honest, most of us don’t have styles all that distinctive. I certainly don’t or if I do, I’d appreciate someone explaining to me exactly what that might be. I write the way I talk, but with a lot more typos. I hope my speech typos are undetectable. I’d hate to think everyone actually sees my words flying through the air, misspelled and mispronounced. Egads.

So … just in case the WordPress people get the Daily Prompt back on line and connect us all up to form the much-touted “family” — I think I speak for many of us — and if I don’t, I definitely speak for myself — when I say “Which ‘other bloggers’ style? Who has such a distinctive presentation that I could flatteringly imitate it? Maybe I am suffering a caffeine deficiency that I need to quickly remedy?

I suppose I could get ambitious and pretend I’m William Faulkner or maybe Edgar Allen Poe … but it’s Sunday. Sleepy peaceful quiet Sunday. I will get myself another cup of coffee. Yes, I think so. Uh huh.

And, for my finale, I’ll stick with my style (whatever it may be). May your day be peaceful and include sunshine and lots of coffee.

  1. I’m not quite sure what the deal is, but since DSB left almost three weeks ago, I have had two cups of coffee. Two. And I didn’t find them enjoyable. I don’t know if I’ll get back to it, or if it’s something I’ve been ruined for for a little while. I did drink quite a bit of tea, this morning, though. And a Dr. Pepper. At least I’m still getting caffeine!

    • The last time no one wanted coffee in this house, I got a new coffee machine and suddenly … I figure you might as well try the easy stuff first. If that doesn’t work … then there’s the other stuff waiting for you 🙂

  2. I’ve had my one cup at McDonald’s and have switched to my favorite drink, water. I fill and empty a Brita Pitcher at least twice a day. I think my sipping habit come from my prescription meds. One or more of them finds me with a dry mouth. It’s one reason you’ll always see me chewing Trident when away from home.

    • For me, it’s sports drinks. I have an electrolyte problem and plain water makes it worse. How ironic, eh? Fortunately, there are cheap versions of sports drinks! And we have such great water, too.

  3. I also write the way I talk when blogging with a few refinements. Not as many repetitions or filler words — though you’ll see some, like, likes in there — a habit I picked up hanging around college kids a few years back. hahahaha. But it’s kinda freeing to type in a talkative manner rather than formally, dontcha think?

  4. Good one. I, too, write the way I talk. That’s when I can remember what I’ve said to myself. And, that’s assuming I’m listening to myself. Time for another cup of coffee.

  5. “I write the way I talk, but with a lot more typos.” Great line!

“I’d hate to think everyone actually sees my words flying through the air, misspelled and mispronounced.” What? You mean you don’t have a comic strip word bubble that allows everyone to read what you’re saying?

  6. My Sunday has involved coffee and sunshine (and roast chicken round my parents’ house)!

    • Ah, yes. A proper Sunday. Ours is mostly coffee, sometimes a trip outside to take a few pictures or pick up something at the grocery, then dinner, old movies on the telly and a nice sleep. Nirvana, if you ask me.
