A square, spiky full moon on a misty night
Last night, just as I was packing up and ready to go to bed Garry popped into the living room. He had already removed his hearing aids so he obviously didn’t expect an answer.
“I could be wrong, but it looks like a really full moon out there. You might want to take a few pictures.”
Of course, I wanted to take pictures. I’ve never been able to take successful pictures of the moon from this house. The trees have always been in the way. I do have a great lens now, but it’s not a fast lens. It’s perfect in daylight.
I thought it might work because the moon was so very bright, but when I realized I could feel the mist in my face, so I knew I wasn’t going to get the face of the moon. I hoped it would be clear tonight and maybe I make up for it … but it’s raining for real now.
Meanwhile, these are as interesting a set of pictures as I’ve ever taken.
Not only spiky squares. Jagged, barbed, bristly, serrated, prickly, spiny, and pointy things and this is one.

I like the idea of some kid sitting on the sliver moon with a fishing pole….

Leslie, that sound nifty. Like a Norman Rockwell painting.

Yah, that would be Norman Rockwellish…

I take pics every time we have a full moon and they are always WAYYYYY less impressive than in real times! The halo is far more important than the moon itself….

Pretty much every clear moon shot looks the same as every other picture since we are all shooting the same side of the moon. I got some really interesting halo shots too. I finally went with these, but I may do the haloes on another day.

The moon looked crisper and clearer from my closed bathroom window. Think it was surrounded by tree branches. Strange that the camera’s view wasn’t as sharp. Usually it’s the other way round, yes? I know I was “taken” by the view when I casually glanced out the window.

The problem is that this is a relatively slow lens — f4.0 is wide open for it. Fine in any daylight, but not much of a night shooter. And it was raining … just a little bit.

Kiki, be careful of your full moon pic shoots. The “children of the night” are nearby. What sweet music they make.

it looks like book covers for something weird. But that’s how they came out. Not what I intended, but certainly interesting!
