The irises got eaten by the skunks and have never been replanted. I miss them, but I can’t manage the bigger gardens anymore. Meanwhile, these are the irises we grew back when the garden was still young and healthy — and hadn’t been taken over by strangling vines.

Heartbreaking indeed to see them fade away this way. But at least you took photos of them.

I hope those munchers were really HUNGRY because those were expensive snacks!

They are two different shades of purple or is that just the light or camera? Either way, both of them are beautiful.

There are a lot of shades of purple. I think each of these pictures was from a separate year. Some years the iris were very dark, but lighter other years. Until the skunks ate the bulbs. They ate all the bulbs except for TWO tulip bulbs.

I love irises. So do the skunks who think bulbs are yummy. At a certain point, I gave up. Between the skunks and the deer and the squirrels and all the other munchers of flowers and bulbs. the only way we’d have a garden was to cage the entire thing including the roof! At least I have photographs.

It takes a lot of constant attention to keep a garden and those of us who aren’t really able are better off not trying.
