Cee’s Which Way Photo Challenge

We always take a lot of pictures in the summer, but we take more pictures than we usually take when we are on the water. Not only did we have an absolutely perfect day — a sky so blue it was almost unreal — but we had a sunset. This was a full circle sunset with color on every side.

A super-duper sunset. The kind that looks like someone created it with a computer because the sky doesn’t really look like that.

Except it does. And did.

Garry up the companionway from the lower deck to the captain’s quarter. Is that the poop deck?

Garry and Tom way down the pier. Also, using my wide-angle lens, so they looked even farther off.

The world begins as the pier ends …

And of course, a great place to take pictures.

      It was kind of spectacular, actually. Very visual. Not a lot of chatting, but a lot of looking and seeing. We didn’t get out into the larger bay because it was (I was told) too rough for the boat. I asked how it could be so calm in the channel and so rough out there and Tom said “Two different ocean environments” and having had a little boat, I knew what he meant. Just because it’s calm at the pier, doesn’t mean it’s safe to sail. But it was perfect anyway and Garry went out on the dinghy.

    Some lovely photos and it is good to get to other places. A wide angle lens is the one missing in my collection

    When I first got my camera, a friend told me always to look away from the sun when shooting sunsets — it works — the colors are usually much more vivid in that direction!

      This time, it didn’t matter. It was amazing in every direction. I don’t think the sun makes the colors less vivid UNLESS you put the sun right in the middle of the pictures. That will lower the saturation. But if the sun is off to one side or the other, or behind a cloud … and it also helps to use a spot meter … you can get the same result. Anyway, up here, there usually isn’t anything in the other direction. It’s rare in New England to get an all-around sunset like that one. It may be more common where you are, but I’ve never seen one like that before.
