Some will disagree, but honestly New England was meant for the fall and its celebrations. Where else can the color contrasts be so vivid? Perhaps parts of Washington state offer great beauty too. But NE is #1 in my book.
I’m told the small ones have much better flavor than the big ones, which are mainly decorative. I think they also breed them a little different for cooking with a thinner skin.
Nice shots. I’ve never been a huge Halloween fan, but I do love the assortment of pumpkins especially all the new ones that look like they have hidden colors and accessories. 🙂
I’m particularly fond of the gourds. I used to put on baskets of them on the tables throughout the house … but then the dogs started stealing them and chewing them up. No more gourds.
It’s the pumpkins. This is a big region for growing them … we have farms that produce thousands of them and contests for the biggest ones. Some farms specialize in HUGE ones that weigh hundreds of pounds and can only be moved by horse and wagon.

It’s the colors, you know? The deep orange of the pumpkins sets the tone. I really love the gourds and all their colors, too.

I have two smaller ones this year. I’ll cut them up, cook them and make some pies and let you know the verdict.
