Still time to go up, up and away
It’s a little museum on a private property. It contains many of the pieces used by the Tuskegee Airmen as well as a few airplanes that they maintain and fly. This day was to give scholarships to students. Little scholarships because they don’t have a lot of money, but at least it might buy some books. It was a beautiful day. One of the pilots took a passenger up. We expected him back in a little while, but more than an hour later, he was still gone. Nice ride!

I wish we’d gotten to fly, but the pilot didn’t land and after more than an hour, we had to leave. It was a long drive home. But it was fun watching that tiny little plane shoot up into the sky.

We hoped so, but right now — nothing is going on. I don’t even know who is alive. The people maintaining those little planes and flying them flew them in World War II and even assuming they were very young at the time, they certainly aren’t young today. If we ever get free of lockdown …

I’ve only flown once in a tiny plane in South Dakota. At the time it was simply a way to get from one town to another. I also flew across the USA in a commercial prop plane. When my daughter was 21, she became an airline stewardess or TWA for seven yeas and traveled all over the world for free. As her mother, I could fly free except for paying the tax. If I paid $10, I could fly first class. Those were the days when they fed you decently on their flights. So, it was “Up, Up and Away with TWA” for those years.

I had a couple of friends who had small planes and they liked company. I chipped in for the fuel and we popped around NY and New England. It was fun, but my feet were always frozen.
