FOTD – November 15, 2018 – Mums
It is normally the time of year for mums, except they are predicting 4 inches of snow today. So let us think fondly of mums … but find your warm boots, a hat, and maybe a pair of gloves.
Try to remain cheerful even though it’s still a week until Thanksgiving. I don’t like when winter starts this early.

Mums come in such lovely colours today. It’s snowing here right now.

Beautiful flowers! I didn’t realize that mum was short for chrysanthemum. My mother is named after chrysanthemum in Vietnamese. Learning something new everyday…

I know chrysanthemums are very popular in the east. What is the word for it in Vietnamese?

Cuc. There’s also an accent on the letter u that affects the intonation of the word. My grandfather named most of my aunts after flowers.

Both hard Cs? as in kuk?

Yes and the letter u is a long vowel. Hm.. I think if you type chrysanthemum into Google translate, you might be able to listen to a sound bite! ☺

They are florist flowers, but they are lovely 🙂 They do great stuff with colors these days, too.

I know, putting dye in the water and the flowers suck it up and take the color!

I know some people don’t like, but some people also don’t believe in editing photographs. I think it’s kind of cool. Depending on color.

Yes, I do too as long as the stems don’t take on a very pronounced color. Then they start looking fake!

Lovely shots! I can’t remember ever seeing a blue (and white) one before??

The tint them by watering them with vegetable-dye water. Some of the colors are amazing. These were probably originally white.

Very good photos. I always have a problem with identification with the dahlias

I love the way they look, but they don’t really do well here. Too cold — and they are annuals, so you have to have the energy to keep replacing them. I admire them, but I don’t grow them. I didn’t grow these either. They are straight from the flower shop 🙂
